Rabbi Art Donsky has been Temple Ohav Shalom’s spiritual leader since 1997. Enthusiastic and creative, Rabbi Art emphasizes Jewish education and social justice in his Div’rei Torah and community work. A dedicated guitarist and big fan of modern Jewish music, from Dan Nichols to Craig Taubman, he usually accompanies our temple soloists during Shabbat and religious school services.
Rabbi Art currently serves as Director of the temple’s Lifelong Learning program. He is instrumental in the instruction of our temple’s Kabbalat Torah (Confirmation) and B’nai Mitzvah students. He was directly involved in the founding of the temple’s Preschool program when the congregation moved to its new home 11 years ago.
A recipient of the Diversity Award from the North Hills Anti-Racism Coalition, Rabbi Donsky is on the Rabbinic Cabinet of Rabbi for Human Rights, North America, the J Street Rabbinic Cabinet (founding co-chair of J Street Pittsburgh).
Rabbi Donsky currents serves as an instructor with the Agency for Jewish Learning of Pittsburgh teaching various classes associated with the Florence Melton Adult Education Program. He is also an instructor with CJEEP (Catholic-Jewish Educational Enrichment Project) that is coordinated by the Pittsburgh Area Jewish Committee.
A native of Bayonne, New Jersey, was graduated from the University of North Carolina (Greensboro), Rabbi Art attended the Jerusalem and New York campuses of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. He served as Associate Rabbi of Temple Sinai of North Dade, in North Miami Beach, FL and the Executive Director of the Hillel: Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh, immediately prior to joining Temple Ohav Shalom.
He has one daughter, Aliyah, who is attending Princeton University.
