The origins of Temple Ohav Shalom reach back to twelve North Hills families who, for many years, met for worship services in each other’s homes.
In 1968 this dedicated group of families formed the “North Hills Jewish Community Center”. Services and functions were held at members’ homes and in various assembly halls. In 1979 the growing group purchased a temple on Duncan Avenue in Hampton Township. Two years later, Temple Ohav Shalom was officially formed. Over the next 20 years the congregation continued to expand, eventually requiring a larger facility. On a snowy day in January 1999 this goal was achieved as our members carried our precious Torah scrolls into our new and present house of worship located on Thompson Run Road in McCandless.
In 2007 we completed a capital campaign enabling us to expand our facility with additional classrooms and public areas. That construction was completed in early 2008.
Temple Ohav Shalom offers a welcoming spirit, warm and inclusive. Please stop into our office for more information.
